10 months ago today I had Sophie. She was 7lbs 7Oz's. My littlest baby. My first 2 were 9lbs 7oz's. Big babies lol. When she was born
we were sooo happy. A new baby. Our lil. The hole family came to see her. My Mom, Mother in law and Ricky were at the hospital when she came into the world. Carla, Robbie and Madison came in the days to fallow. Auntie Carla did not take a lunch so she could get there in time before she had to get Maddy. Uncle Ricky kicked my out of my bed as he did when my other kids were born. He had a rough day after all he became an uncle again.
Uncle Robbie held her and used his finger to make her talk. He did this with all the kids. My daddy had to work and Auntie Katie had to also. But they came later. On the 17Th Sophie got a little yellow. The nurse said it was that she was going to have Daddy's dark skin. I was hopping that at least one of the girls would because my German jeans made all the girls really white. The Dr said she might be getting a little Jaundice. This was the firs time i had herd of Jaundice. He said to up her feeding to every 2 hours. The next day she looked better. We stared giving her formula with my Brest milk.
Sophie came home on Friday January 19, 4 days old. She did not fit in her going home outfit. She did not fit in any of the clothes we got her. We need to get some new born outfits. It was a great weekend. Saturday we went to CPK. Just for 5 Min's. I did not let anyone touch her. The first to meed us was the GM our friend Doug. He said she was amazing. She was and still is. Saturday night Victor got to go out with his friend to the UFC fight. He had a long week. At the hospital all day and night with me and Sophie, then get home to get Makayla to school. So i gave him the night off. Yes I'm a nice wife.
Monday January 20Th we both had Dr's apts. Me to get my staples out and Sophie to get a wight check. In the hospital she went from 7 7 to 6lbs 7. One pound in a 3 days. But on Monday she was back up to 7 lbs 2 ozs. She had gotten a little more yellow. Her DR said keep by a sunny window. That was all good if there had been sun. It rained for the first time in a good 4 months in ca.
My mom came with Sabrina on Tuesday and Victor went back to work on Wednesday. We were amazed how much Sophie seeped. Little did we know what our little girl was fighting. Within 2 days she had gotten really yellow. So much that the whites of her eyes were yellow. But then in a different light she did not look so bad. We went to the DR at 3:45, we have had the same DR since Makayla was 2. So all the girls wanted to see the new baby. Little did i know when the nurse looked at her she got Dr Becker right a way. Our Sophie was very sick. She went back down to 6 lbs 3 oz. When her Dr slaw her he said to get her in to the lab to get a blood test STAT. We got there and i was so very worried. After almost 10 Min's they got enough blood to get a good test. Victor got off work and was there with me. We got home and waited and waited for the Dr to call.
At 9:30 we got the call. Sophie Jaundice levels were at 35 Bil. We need to get down to Rady Children's Hospital NICU right away. Of course I stared to cry and Dr Becker asked if there was someone there to take us, and if he could talk to them. I handed the phone to victor and ran around the house to get her some stuff. In my mind we were going to stay for maybe 3 or 4 hours. When My mom handed my clothes for Izzy for maybe 4 or 5 days i said how long were we going to be there for, and she said she did not know. On the way down there the rain was coming down!!! It was the longest drive of my life. When we got there my in laws were there waiting for us. The hospital was so big we did not know where to go. We found the ER and asked where the NICU was, they said we had a long walk.
We finally found the wing and I went to check in. They said they would be right out. They were setting up a room for us. The PA came out and said her name ( i wish i could remember) and said for us to come back. There were about 4 or 6 nurses and other people in the room working on lights and getting IVS ready. It was all a haze. Looking around the room, seeing all the things they were doing for our baby. Very overwhelming. Victor was telling me she was going to be OK and the nurses were explaining everything as they did it. They took another level and it was at 37 Bil. It had gone up by 2 in 4 hours. The PA was trying to find a vain it took everything I had not to hit her. After what I thought was forever I said there had to be something other than this. She said they would do a central line, and we would have to Waite in the other room and we could come back when they were done.
The PA came out and toled us that she was at a 37 bil. The only thing that would save her was a blood transfusion, after going over all the pros and cons we said yes. They had to take out the bad blood in her and fill her back up with good blood. They had to do a double bypass transfusion. It took about 3 hours. We finely got to go back to see her at 6:00 am. The nurses said she was a FIGHTER. At one point it took 4 nurses and the pa to do the transfusion. As soon as they were done Sophie pulled out her central line, and fell went to sleep. We had to go at 6:30 because they had rounds. We got to go back at 8:30. We called my mom thought out the night and she gave the family updates.
Over the next 4 days Sophie got better, and better. Her levels went down every time they did a blood test. Dr Becker called to check on her. My daddy and Katie drove in from AZ. Aly came with food soda and magazines. Ricky, Robbie and Clara called every 30 min's ( almost) to check up on Sophie. On day 3 Sandra and my nephew came from NO CA, to see us. She kidnapped me and took me to a hotel to get some sleep and a shower. I had not left the hospital in 2 days.
We got to meet some other mom's and dad's when we were there. There were 26 beds in the nicu and Sophie was # 26. In bed 15 was baby Leo. His mom and dad were there as much as we were. I think about them a lot. We never got to know what happened to baby Leo. He was very sick.
On day 4 we took our baby home again from the hospital. With a new appreciation for live and god. As we left I sopped at the thought of us going home and knowing that some mom's and dad's that we had gotten to know would not be so lucky. I thank god and the Dr's every day that saved my baby's life.
Now looking back on the first 10 months of my baby's life with amazing joy and love. She has beaten all odds and is a normal 10 month old baby. She smiles and giggles. Love's her sisters and mommy and daddy. She gets mad when she cant get something and is always turning off the TV. Words cant express the way we all love her. Every day is a new day with our 3 girls.
I'm a very lucky women to say that.
